About the post–

POST– are on the hunt for a Platforms Tools Developer to work for one of the UK's largest property portals who aim to empower the UK’s decisions around property.

We are looking for a Platforms Tools Developer who is up for the challenge of meeting the high expectations of their development teams through the creation of top-notch software. Their Platforms Tools Developers are self-motivated and passionate about using the right technology to make software developers lives as easy as possible. They are the creative brains behind the design, optimisation, and maintenance of their development tools.

You will be working within a close-knit multi-skilled agile team who are collectively responsible for the quality of the end product.

A typical week as a developer might involve:

  • Writing a Gradle plugin to automate that tedious developer task
  • Engaging with software developers and operations engineers to understand their current pain points
  • Creating a Jenkins plugin to improve the speed of our delivery pipelines
  • Providing self-service solutions for cross-functional features, such as centralised logging, A/B test frameworks, application monitoring, and Docker containerisation
  • Improving the speed and safety of the deployment systems
  • Collaborating with the operations engineers to manage developer services like Stash, Jenkins, and Nexus
  • Releasing your solution and get instant feedback from your users
  • Analysing and optimising your projects’ build times

What we need from you–

  • Loves to automate all the things
  • Thinks Humble and Farley's Continuous Delivery should be mandatory reading
  • Builds opinionated tools to make things simple, but knows they should also be flexible, to make things powerful
  • Has strong problem-solving skills
  • Likes to dig around open source software, utilise it and extend it
  • Promotes TDD and is passionate about delivering well-tested quality solutions
  • Looks to share their knowledge with the rest of the team
  • Cares whether their code bring a bit more joy to other developer’s jobs
  • Asks questions and uses the experience of those around them
  • Takes the initiative when they spot an opportunity for improvement
  • Wants to take ownership of planning and prioritising work that meets your customers’ needs
  • Gets a kick when the open source GitHub repo merges your pull request for that bug you found

We would love someone to have any of the following:

  • Commercial experience of writing web applications
  • Good knowledge of Java
  • Experience of Jenkins, Java build tools such as Maven and Gradle, container solutions like Docker
  • Experience with a scripting language like Shell, Groovy or Python
  • Agile development experience including retrospectives and short iterations
  • Computer Science related degree, minimum 2:1 (or equivalent)
